About the Book:-This book gives in separate chapters the importance of Women as seen in Buddhist literature. The subject of women as depicted in the Pali literature is an interesting one. The author has been long contemplating of writing something about this topic. He has attempted in this treatise to do justice to the subject; but how far he has succeeded, it is for the public to judge. He has made use of all original Pali books. This work is, he believes, the first of its kind. Moreover, Buddhism in spite of its catholic ideas did not at first place women on a level with men. Nevertheless women played not an inconspicuous part in the early history of Buddhism. And we quite agree with other notes scholar that through and in Buddhism the Indian women secured a real advance. But the advance was the work of the women themselves. The book contains eight chapters that cover: marriage, slave girls, dancers and courtesans, female character, female education, women and Buddhism, Bhikkhuni Sangha, the concluding chapter is on prominent Buddhist women. This book is a reprint of the 1927 edition. About the Author:-Bimala Charan Laha also known as Bimala Charan Law was born in 26th October 1892 in West Bengal, India. He was a Bengali scholar, writer, translator, editor and adopter. He was belonged to ancient mid-Indian Kṣatriya tribes. He is the author of books such as The Buddhist Conception of Spirits.
