This present book entitled Tribal and Sustainable Development is the outcome of the research work in the field of sustainable development and bio-diversity conservation has been carried out among the selected tribal communities in the three different ecological setting (viz Hilly Zone, Chotanagpur Platue Zone and Coastal Zone) in the State of West Bengal. The major issues like gradual depletion of our global resources over the last century in one hand and conservation of the available resources for future human interests on the other has been addressed in this book. The information gathered from the field has been interpreted in view of tackling the major issues to overcome the problems faced by the tribal communities has been reflected as a set of policy guidelines. Bhowmick (born 1955) did his M.A., in Rural Development in the year 1980. In the year 1988 he was awarded Ph.d. from I.I.T., Kharagpur. He was also awarded D. Litt.in the year 1998 from Ranchi University. At present he is Associate Professor in the Rural Development Centre, I.I.T., Kharagpur. Dr. Bhowmick has published articles related Tribal and Rural Development Programmes in reputed journals and also authored a few books. He is also co-author of the book namely, Tribal Unrest and Tribal Movement (1994), Land and Forest: Twin Tribal Problems (1998). The author of several research paper Dr. Bhowmick has been interested in teaching, training and conducting researches among the rural and tribal communities.
