Leaving Vladikavkaz in early spring, he travelled extensively in central Asia, visiting the famed cities of Samarkand Bokhara, Khiva, Tashkent and other small town, while making his way to the Chinese border. There are extensive observations on the Kirghiz people and on their daily life, customs, caravans, occupations etc. The author describes the scenery and the geography, along with various other snippets of useful information he observed while travelling. The political scenario is also considered in this narrative. There is a map of his route and 37 other photographs and sketches in this book to arouse a greater amount interest amongst the common readers. It was first published in 1916. About the Author :- Stephen Graham was a British traveller and writer largely responsible for shaping British and American perceptions of Russia in the early twentieth century. He later travelled throughout Europe and North America, writing many novels and biographies that established him as an important author during his lifetime. Graham walked across large parts of the Tsarist Empire in the years before 1917, describing his adventures in a series of books and articles that helped to shape attitudes towards Russia in Britain and the United States. In later years he travelled widely across Europe and North America, meeting some of the best known writers of the twentieth century, including H.G.Wells and Ernest Hemingway. Graham also wrote numerous novels and biographies that won him a wide readership on both sides of the Atlantic. This book traces Graham’s career as a world traveller, and provides a rich portrait of English, Russian and American literary life in the first half of the twentieth century.
