Teaching and Learning the Script Resource Book 4 (ELI Series)

The fourth of the five resource books, introduces the readers to various aspects of the theme Teaching and Learning the script. The debate on whether there's a need to teach the script or will the children just pick these skills up on their own, if exposed to a literate environment has been there for quite some time. However, the some researches have also indicated the need of explicit and systematic approach of teaching the decoding skills, throughout the elementary grades. The topics covered in the theme present the words of experience and perspectives on the development of children as readers and writers of various scripts; also touching upon the developmental patterns, typical challenges faced in the process, the nature of scripts, and strategies used by some of the practitioners in different contexts to build script knowledge by facilitating a meaningful engagement. _______________________________________________________________________________________________Resource Books- About 45 original short-blog pieces, aiming at perspective-building, invited from practitioners and academics from the field, along with and approximately 150 annotations across the five themes; Multilingual Education, Children’s literature, Children’s writing, Decoding of script and Comprehension. Comprised of five Resource books and seven Practitioner briefs, this set consists of writings on themes ranging from decoding, comprehension to multi-lingual education and the use of children’s literature in classrooms, exploring various aspects of language learning and early literacy in India.
