‘कुटुंबव्यवस्था आणि चांदणे’, ‘कुटुंबव्यवस्था आणि फुलपाखरू’ व ‘कुटुंबव्यवस्था आणि पाऊस’ या तीन भागांनी मिळून ‘उत्सुकतेने मी झोपलो’ ही कादंबरी साकार झाली आहे. एकाच कादंबरीत अशी तीन स्वतंत्र कथानके असणारा प्रयोग मराठीत नवा आहे. कुटुंबव्यवस्था हे त्याचे सामान सूत्र आहे. ‘कुटुंबव्यवस्थेत ज्ञानाचे स्थान’ हा या कादंबरीचा केंद्रबिंदू आहे. कुटुंब ज्ञानावर नाही, तर भावनेवर आधारित असते. तिथे केवळ ज्ञानालाच नाही, तर सौंदर्यालाही जागा नसते. रूढी व परंपरा यांतून एक व्यवस्थाच पक्की होत असते. समाज किंवा कुटुंब विचार करू शकत नाही, व्यक्ती विचार करते; पण तो करण्यासाठी सवड व एकांत तिला मिळावा लागतो. मात्र एकटेपणाची मूल्य आपल्या समाजात रुजलेले नाही. कुटुंबात त्याला मान्यता आणि जागा नसते. प्रेम, त्याग, आनंद, दुःख गप्पा, घटनांचे वर्णन यांना जशी तिथे जागा आहे तशी ; विचार, निर्मिती, सर्जन या बाबींना कुटुंबात जागा मिळू शकली नाही. जगण्यासाठी केवळ कुटुंब नाही, तर समाज चांगला असावा लागतो. कुटुंबात कोणती चर्चा करावी व कोणती करू नये, याबाबत काही संकेत असतात. कुटुंबात स्वातंत्र्य असल्यासारखे असते; पण तसे ते असत नाही. आपण कोणाबद्दल काय भावना ठेवायची हेही ठरलेले असते. तिथे भावना, प्रेम, स्तुती, गुंतणे असते; पण कुटुंबात विचार केला जात नाही. इमॅजिनेशनला तिथे जागा नसते. अशा रीतीने कुटुंबव्यवस्थेचे अवमूल्यन न करता, तिच्या मर्यादा आणि संवेदनक्षम ज्ञानाची आस असलेल्या माणसांची या व्यवस्थेत जगतानाची तगमग श्याम मनोहर यांनी या कादंबरीमध्ये अत्यंत तरलतेने व्यक्त केली आहे.

या कादंबरीसाठी श्याम मनोहर यांना २००८ साली साहित्य अकादेमी पुरस्काराने गौरवण्यात आले आहे. The experiment of having three separate plots in one novel is new in Marathi. Family system is its baggage formula. 'The place of knowledge in the family system' is the focus of this novel. Family is not based on knowledge, but on emotion. There is no place not only for knowledge, but also for beauty. A system is established through custom and tradition. Society or family cannot think, the individual thinks; But to do that, she needs to get peace and solitude. But the value of solitude is not rooted in our society. He has no recognition and no place in the family. Love, Sacrifice, Joy, Sadness, Chat, Narration of Events as there is room for it; Thought, creation, surgery could not find a place in the family. In order to survive, not only the family, but the society has to be good. There are some pointers on what to discuss and what not to discuss in the family. Family is like freedom; But it was not like that. It is also decided what feelings we have for whom. There is emotion, love, praise, involvement; But it is not considered in the family. Imagination has no place there. Thus, without devaluing the family system, Shyam Manohar has very fluidly expressed in this novel the struggle of people living in this system with its limitations and desire for sensitive knowledge.

Shyam Manohar has been honored with Sahitya Akademi Award in 2008 for this novel.
