Product description
About The Book : He following Tales are meant to be submitted to the young reader as an introduction to the study of Shakespeare, for which purpose, his words are used whenever it seemed possible to bring them in; and in whatever has been added to give them the regular form of a connected story, In those Tales which have been taken from the Tragedies, as my young readers will perceive when they come to see the source from which these stories are derived, Shakespeare’s own words, with little alteration, recur very frequently in the narrative as well as in the dialogue; I have wished to make these Tales easy reading for very young children. To the utmost of my ability. I have constantly kept this in my mind; but the subjects of most of them made this a very difficult task. About The Author : Charles Lamb ( 1775 – 1834) was an English essayist, poet, and antiquarian, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shakespeare, co-authored with his sister, Mary Lamb. Friends with such literary luminaries as Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, William Wordsworth, and William Hazlitt, Lamb was at the centre of a major literary circle in England. He has been referred to by E. V. Lucas, his principal biographer, as "the most lovable figure in English literature".Mary Ann Lamb (3 December 1764 – 20 May 1847) was an English writer. She is best known for the collaboration with her brother Charles on the collection Tales from Shakespeare. Mary suffered from mental illness, and in 1796 she stabbed her mother to death during a mental breakdown. She was confined to mental facilities for most of her remaining life. She and Charles presided over a literary circle in London that included the poets William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, among others The Title 'Shakespeare for children Tales from Shakespeare written/authored/edited by Charles and Mary Lamb', published in the year 2022.
