About the Book:-A wonderful and concise book for any one who wishes to know about Islam, the Quran, or the Prophet. The selections of the verses were made by the very learned scholar Edward William Lane, who translated the Arabian Nights, in 1843.The edition is divided into 3 parts: The first is a introduction in which copious notes on pre-Islamic Arabic the time of the prophet, the advent of islam and a short notice on the kuran are offered. The next part is Islam. The verses are grouped under distinct headings and the important utterances of the prophet on what his followers must believe and do. The last part consists of observations of Islam on the various other patriarchs prophets, and other personages of Jewish and Christian importance About the Author:-Edward William Lane (1801 – 1876) was a British orientalist, translator and lexicographer. He is known for his Manners and Customs of the Modern Egyptians and the Arabic-English Lexicon, as well as his translations of One Thousand and One Nights and Selections from the Kur-án. During his lifetime, he also wrote a detailed account of Egypt and the country's ancient sites, but the book, titled Description of Egypt, was published posthumously. It was first published by the American University in Cairo Press in 2000 and has been republished several times since then. Lane was born at Hereford, England, the third son of the Rev. Dr Theopilus Lane, and grand-nephew of Thomas Gainsborough on his mother's side.Stanley Edward Lane-Poole (18 December 1854 – 29 December 1931) was a British orientalist and archaeologist. Poole was from a famous orientalist family as his mother Sophia Lane Poole, brother Reginald Stuart Poole and uncle Edward William Lane were famous for their work in this field. His other uncle was Richard James Lane, a distinguished Victorian lithographer and engraver. Born in London, England, from 1874 to 1892 he worked in the British Museum, and after that in Egypt researching on Egyptian archaeology. From 1897 to 1904 he had a chair as Professor of Arabic studies at Dublin University.
