About the Book:-Whatever tends to increase the sphere of knowledge is unquestionably important, and in this respect history and geography have a conspicuous claim to our attention. Rich in titles on English life and social history, this collection spans the world as it was known to eighteenth-century historians and explorers. This is a pictorial book that gives copper plate illustrations of the areas around Mysore written about a decade after the fall of Tipu Sultan, the description also recount the military manoeuvers and operations that those site were home to. Unfortunately for themselves, they had, to do with an enemy too politic, and too powerful. Their ambitious dreams have vanished, and the present Sultan of Mysore has found himself compelled to relinquish half his dominions, as a security that he would no more attempt to disturb the tranquility of his neighbours. The areas discussed are Bangalore, Savendroog, Maugree, Ootradroog, Ramgaree, Chenepatam, Oliahdroog, Sheragunga, Seringapatam and Peddinaigdroogm. This book contains 29 fine illustrations which the author has taken from his drawings. This book is the reprint of the 1808 edition. About the Author:-Robert Home (1752–1834) was a British oil portrait painter who travelled to the Indian subcontinent in 1791. During his travels he also painted historic scenes and landscapes. In 1795 Home arrived in Calcutta (Kolkata) and continued his work there as an established artist. He was for some time Secretary of the Society and the first Library-in-Charge (1804), and donated his small but valuable art collection. In 1814 he moved to Lucknow and became a court painter of Nawab Ghazi-ud-Din Haider (1769–1827). His Select Views in Mysore, the Country of Tippoo Sultan were published in London and Madras in 1794, and in Calcutta he made 215 water colours of Indian mammals, birds and reptiles, some of which he also worked up as oils.
