स्वतःचा निर्मळ अंतःस्वर जपत संथगतीने कविता लिहिणारे प्रफुल्ल शिलेदार आजच्या मराठी कवितेतील एक महत्त्वाचे कवी आहेत. त्यांच्या कवितेचा ‘स्व’पासून समष्टीकडे होणार प्रवास त्यांच्या सर्वच कवितांमधून अधोरेखित होत जातो. जगण्याविषयी प्रचंड कुतूहल असणारी ही कविता मानवी जगण्याचा तळ शोधण्याची आकांक्षा बाळगते. त्यांच्या बहुपेडी आशयसूत्रांना अर्थाचे बहुविध स्तर प्रसविण्याकरिता आवश्यक असे अनोखे आविष्कारतंत्र त्यांच्या कवितेला सर्वच रूढ समकालीन कवितेपासून अलिप्त ठेवून स्वतंत्र वाट चोखाळायला लावते. ही कविता आवाजी नाही आणि आत्ममग्नही नाही. ही कविता वाचणाऱ्याच्या मेंदूचा संथपणे कब्जा घेऊन मानवी अस्तित्वाच्या साऱ्या शक्यता पुन्हा पुन्हा तपासून घेण्यास भाग पाडते. जगण्याचे अनंत प्रश्न केंद्रस्थानी आणून झालेल्या गुंतवळीचा स्वशोध स्वतंत्रपणे घेण्यास वाचकाला बळ पुरवते. ही कविता स्वशोधाची, समूहशोधाची आणि पर्यायाने माणसाच्या शोधाची कविता आहे.

या कवितेला प्रतिमा, प्रतीके, गूढता यांचा सोस परवडत नाही. ती व्यवहार भाषेतील सहज सुलभ शब्दांना आपल्या आत मुक्तद्वार ठेवून त्यांना आपल्या विश्वाशोधाच्या भिंगाने भारित करून थक्क करणारे नवे अस्तित्त्व प्राप्त करून देते. हे होत असताना त्यात कारागिरीची अंशही न सापडावा यातून प्रफुल्ल शिलेदार या प्रतिभासंपन्न माणसाच्या जगण्यातील तत्त्वनिष्ठा आणि कवितेवरील अतर्क्य निष्ठा प्रतीत होते. या कवितेला सर्वच बेगडी गोष्टींना, कृतक तंत्रांना आणि अवजड भाषिक भुयारांना सहज टाळून मातीत घट्ट पाय रोवून उभे राहता येते ही अचंबित करणारी गोष्ट आहे. हे सारे कदाचित त्यांनी आपली कवितेची सारी परंपरा गाढ निष्ठेने पचवल्यामुळे शक्य झाले असावे. या कवितेला मिरवण्याची हौस नाही तशीच अकारण चमकण्याची आकांक्षा नाही. आपल्या वाट्याला कुणी यावे म्हणू शिणगार नाही किंवा टाळावे म्हणून हैदोस नाही; पण भेटणाऱ्याला बोट धरून अर्थांची जगड्व्याळ भुयारे पार करीत किनाऱ्यावर उभे करून या नव्या प्रदेशाचा अर्थ तूच लावायला हवा, अशी सक्ती करणारी ही कविता आहे. While this is happening, not even a trace of craftsmanship can be found in it, which shows Praful Shiledar's unreasoning devotion to poetry and principle in life of a talented man. It is amazing that this poem can easily avoid all the frills, artifice techniques and cumbersome linguistic tunnels and stand firmly on the soil. All this might have been possible because he digested the entire tradition of his poetry with deep devotion. This poem does not have the desire to shine just as it does not have the desire to shine for no reason. There is no shriek to call for one's share, nor haidos to shun; But this is a poem that compels the visitor to hold a boat and stand on the shore crossing the vast tunnels of meanings and make sense of this new region.
