सुरुवातीला आत्मकेंद्री असणारी श्रीधर नांदेडकर यांची कविता या संग्रहात मात्र वास्तवकेंद्री बनली आहे. मानवाशी संवादी नाते नाकारणारे, त्याच्याशी वैरभाव बाळगणारे, त्याला संभ्रमित करून त्याचे जीवन गुदमरून टाकणारे, त्याला परके आणि अनाकलनीय असणारे हे वास्तव असून त्यातच अपरिहार्यपणे जगाव्या लागणाऱ्या मानवाच्या दुःखपूर्ण मनोवस्थांची कहाणी सांगणारी ही कविता आहे. या वास्तवाशी संवादी नाते प्रस्थापित होऊ शकत नसल्यामुळे येणारे निराधारत्व, परकेपण, एकाकीपण आणि भयग्रस्तता या सनातन अनुभवांची अभिव्यक्ती ही कविता करते. तरीही जगण्याला आवश्यक असणाऱ्या मूल्यांवर त्यांची श्रद्धा आहे. या मूल्यांच्या आधारे मानवी जीवन सावरण्याच्या नैसर्गिक वृत्तीचे आणि त्यात येणाऱ्या अपयशाचे विदारक चित्र या कवितेत साकारले आहे. असे जीवन जगणाऱ्या माणसांबद्दलच्या कारुण्याचा स्रोत यातून अखंडपणे वाहताना दिसतो. तसेच मानवाच्या ठिकाणी सुप्तपणे असणाऱ्या मृत्युप्रेरणेचा आविष्कार अतिशय समर्थपणे या कवितेत घडवला गेला आहे. मानवी जीवनावरचे सखोल चिंतन व्यक्त करणाऱ्या या कवितेने आपले वैश्विकत्वही कासोशीने सांभाळले आहे. Still, they have faith in the values ​​that are necessary to live. The poem portrays the natural tendency to save human life on the basis of these values ​​and its failure.
