शेक्सपीयरच्या नाटकांची आत्तापर्यंत अनेक प्रकारे भाषांतरे झाली आहेत. बुकीश नाटकाच्या जमान्यात इंग्रजी वाङ्मयाच्या अभ्यासकांनी शेक्सपीयर मराठीतून वाचता यावा म्हणून जवळ जवळ शब्दश: भाषांतरे केली. शेक्सपीयर रंगभूमीवर सादर करायचा तर पार्श्वभूमी देशी हवी या समजुतीने प्रयोगानुकूलतेने त्यात फेरफार करून रंगावृत्त्या झाल्या. त्याही पलीकडे फक्त कथाभाग मुळाबरहुकूम ठेवून संपूर्णपणे मराठी पेहराव चढवून रूपांतरेही झाली आहेत.. Shakespeare's plays have been translated in many ways. In the era of bookish drama, scholars of English literature translated Shakespeare almost verbatim so that it could be read from Marathi. If Shakespeare were to be presented on stage, the background should be native, and the dramas were adapted experimentally. Apart from that, only the story parts have been modified by putting on Marathi costumes completely.
