Product description
About the Book:-This book is an enlarged copy of the author’s ‘Notes on Gurkhas’ written in 1889. In compiling this book he has borrowed most freely from every author that he knows of who has written on Nepal or its inhabitants. As probably nearly one-half of this book consists of extracts from various authors strung together, often with alterations and additions of his own, he is unable to put between inverted commas every borrowed paragraph, but where feasible he has generally done so, and quoted the name of the author from whose book the extract has been taken. The lists given regarding the Khas, Limbiis, Kais, Sunuwars and Murmis are undoubtedly incomplete, and perhaps in parts incorrect, but to give a full and true list of their tribes and sub-divisions can only be done after years of incessantly putting down on paper each fresh tribe, and each fresh clan of the same, at such time as a member belonging to it presents himself for enlistment, and then by checking its accuracy over and over again. The interest which he takes in Gurkhas and in everything connected with Nepal and its inhabitants must be his excuse for writing this book. This book is a short and reliable guide to the history of Nepal. There are 11 chapters that describe: the geography, the history of the Nepal valley, Gurkha history, tribes and races, customs and rituals, a list of villages in central Nepal, and in eastern Nepal, etc. 'With an Introduction by H. H. Risley. This work is a reprint of the 1896 edition. About the Author:-Col Eden Vansittart was a noted author on Nepal and the Gurkhas.
