ABOUT THE BOOK:- Dwindling and scarce energy resources in India have deprived electricity connectivity to 23 percent of 5, 86,000 villages and 56 percent of 138 million households in India. Difficult, remote locations and inaccessible terrain have compounded to the issue making it a Herculean task for various governments to extend electricity distribution networks to habitations and bring such scattered population into the ambit of electrification. Our attempts in India in the last decades show lack of aftercarefollow up –maintenance of these systems as reasons for the defunct systems. Solar energy technologies demonstrate as an alternative in meeting the electrification need in such difficult areas. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Dr. Valentina Golla, Assistant Professor at National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayatiraj (NIRD & PR), Government of India, is a Doctorate (PhD) in Sociology and specialized in Industrial Relations & personnel Management and Environmental Economics. Her professional life as a Faculty at Government Degree College, Hyderabad Central University and later at NIRD & PR got her involved in Training at International and National level, Policy oriented research studies, Action research projects and publishing many articles. Participated in International Conferences at Japan, Israel and Netherlands and worked in International Project on UN WOMEN on leadership development for women elected representatives. Principally being involved in Action Research on transfer of Solar Energy Technology in Rural Tribal Areas she effectively carried out the transfer of Solar Energy Technologies in the country.
