Books come in many forms. Some narrate events, some weave enchantment, and some transport you into a world where you feel that the book somehow belongs to you as well. I place my book into the third category of books under spiritual creativity—a kind of creation that carries you along with it.

My book Maidan-e-Ishq falls into this very category. I have mentioned  that this book is the story of a boy immersed in the love of cricket. In fact, sport is something naturally embedded within us. Some people become players, while others become masters of observing and analyzing the finer details of the game. In everyday language, we call such people sports enthusiasts—and I am a true   lover of cricket.

For me, every cricket match is like the graceful sway of a beloved. That is why I went all the way to Melbourne , Australia just to watch the Boxing Day Test. Cricket is in blood and I can recall many memorable moments of Indian cricket .The story of such a devotee of cricket is bound to be enjoyable, but what makes it even more interesting is that my late father, Haji Ghulam Mohammad Khan, was no less of a cricket lover himself. And the passion continues with his two sons, Alshaar and Kabeer, who also share the same romance with the game.

But the way cricket connects Me with my wife Uzma Khan is something unique. It was cricket that brought us together, and our  love story blossomed into a lifelong partnership.

As you read Maidan-e-Ishq, you’ll encounter many delightful anecdotes. You will find that how cricket changed the life of an eleven old boy when he first listened the enchanting voice of Sushil Doshi in 1977. After that series India toured Australia 10 times, and you will find my life’s story with the tours of Indian team to Australia, where and what I was doing ?
