‘जरीला ही कादंबरी  पडत जाणाऱ्या, आत्मशोधन करणाऱ्या, जगण्याची धडपड करणाऱ्या, जगणे म्हणजे शिक्षा वाटणाऱ्या, छोट्या छोट्या गोष्टींसाठी रक्त आटविणाऱ्या, संवेदनशील तरुण मनाचा प्रभावी आविष्कार आहे. ‘जरीला’च्या निमित्ताने काऱ्या तरुणाचे एकटेपणाने ग्रासलेले जीवनचित्र रेखाटून नेमाडे यांनी लखलखीत रूप असलेली, मराठीत अभावानेच आढळणारी पर्यायी कादंबरी मांडली आहे. सर्वस्वी महानगरीय समस्यांवर आधारलेली आजची मराठी कादंबरी खरोखर किती मर्यादित आहे, हे त्यामुळे आपोआपच स्पष्ट होते. प्रगल्भ नायाकाकरवी आपला विस्तीर्ण समाजच कादंबरीचा मूलस्रोत करून वाचकाच्या अभिरुचीला एक नवीन वळण लावण्याचा प्रयत्न त्यांनी केला आहे. This automatically makes it clear that today's Marathi novel based on purely metropolitan issues is really limited. He has tried to give a new twist to the reader's taste by using his vast society as the main source of the novel after the profound protagonist.
