ABOUT THE BOOK:- This book gives a deep insight on intangible cultural heritage of South India. Subjects pertaining to folklore and anthropology are generally dealt in this volume. Selected folklore genres such as oral tradition, social folk customs, material culture and performing arts practiced in the different areas of South India are discussed in this book. With the inclusion of the research papers on varied intangible cultural heritage by the scholars, this book provides an opportunity to look into the different cultural practices of Southern India. This volume is a collection of essays presented in the National seminar conducted jointly by IGRMS, Bhopal, Folkland International Centre for Folklore and Culture and Department of Malayalam, Kannur University, Dr. P.K. Rajan Memorial Campus, Nileswaram to mark the 25th anniversary of folkland. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Sarit K. Chaudhuri, Professor of anthropology has worked among tribes of North-East India during last 25 years. During 2003-2005 he was in SOAS, United Kingdom as a postdoctoral fellow and worked for a collaborative project with SOAS, British Museum, CCRD and Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh. He worked in An.S.I., Shilong. He also taught in the Department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh for more than 18 years. He was holding the post of Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, (Government of India, Ministry of Culture) Bhopal. From 2014 to 2019 he has published 13 books and over 52 papers in journals and books. V. Jayarajan is the Chairman, Folkland, International centre for folklore and culture based at Kasargod, Northern district of Kerala. He is also the convener of Kasargod INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage). He had worked as the Vice President of Indian Folklore Congress. Jayarajan is an advocate turned teacher and has a passion for art and culture heritage. He was an expert committee member of Department of Culture, Govt. of India and advisor to Sangeet Natak Akademy, apex cultural body of Govt. of India, New Delhi. He has post graduation in sociology, folklore, and Phd. in social anthropology. He has visited several foreign countries to represent Indian culture and made lectures and conducted workshops in several academic and cultural institutions. Dr. Jayarajan is an executive committee member of Inter City Intangible Cultural Network (ICCN), Korea. Also a member of Intentional Organization of Folklore (IOV), International Society of Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR). He has received several honors including junior and senior fellowships from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. He has several publications in his credit including, Teyyam, a divine dance tradition of Kerala published by IGRMS, Bhopal. He has bagged William Evans fellowship from Otago University, New Zealand.
