श्याम मनोहर या मनुष्याने मराठी गद्याला हाताशी धरून कादंबरीत जी काही उलथापालथ केली आहे ती उलगता उलगता कित्येक पाने खर्ची पडावी अशी आजची परिस्थिती आहे. त्यामुळे, ‘हे ईश्वरराव, हे पुरुषोत्तमराव’ या पुस्तकावर बोलणं इतकं सोपं नाही. विक्षिप्त रॅशनॅलिटीच्या भाषेत बोलणाऱ्या या लेखकात प्रसंग, पात्रे, वर्णने आणि निवेदने हे त्या भाषेचे नाम, सर्वनाम, क्रियापद आदीं समतुल्य भाषाघटक असतात. त्यामुळे त्यांच्या कादंबरीतली पात्रे एकाच उफराट्या मराठीत, कधी ग्रांथिक तर कधी बोलचालीच्या तालुकाप्लेसच्या मराठीत, पण विक्षिप्त रॅशनॅलिझमच्या भाषेत बोलतात. त्यांचं प्रत्येक पात्र हे एकच, एकाचीच भाषा बोलतं. एकाच युजरने वेगवेगळ्या नावाने लॉगीन करावं किंवा एकाच माणसाने आपली वेगवेगळी प्रोफाईल्स बनवून एकमेकांशी चॅटावं तशी त्यांची सगळी वेगवेगळी पात्रं फक्त देहरूपाने अस्तित्वात असतात. त्यांना लेखकाच्या मंत्रशक्तीने तेवढ्यास तेवढं बोलायची वाचा मिळते आणि हा अनेकपात्री प्रयोग नैसर्गिकपणे तळाशी एकपात्री आणि तळाखालून एकजोड होऊन जातो. इतर ठिकाणाप्रमाणे याही कादंबरीत तुलनेने संथ असलेला, फारसा हालता नसलेला, भाषेच्या परिणामसाक्षेपाला अवसर देणारा तालुकाप्लेसचा परिसर वापरलेला आहे. आयुष्याच्या लघुतेबद्दलची समजुतदार चमक या पुस्तकात मायक्रोडिटेलिंगच्या अनुरोधाने प्रकटते आणि पुस्तकभर पसरते. ईश्वरराव, पुरुषोत्तमराव, आत्माराम, काणे, खामकर, सुखदेव, ज्यूनिअर, सीनिअर, विअ, तातोबा, जालिंदर, बनसोडे, चितळे, कुलकर्णी, यार्दी, सासवा, बायका, पोरेटोरे अशा लोकांच्या रूपाने पंचवीसेक साध्या वेशातले मिमांसक जगणेपणाच्या ऱ्हस्वतेची चिंता वाहताना दिसतात. By the spell of the writer, they get to read and speak as much as they can, and this multi-syllabic experiment naturally becomes a monologue at the bottom and a couplet at the bottom. Like elsewhere in the novel, the setting of the taluka place is used which is relatively slow, with little movement, allowing for the impact of language. A perceptive gloss on the brevity of life emerges in this book with its plea for microdetailing and pervades the book. Twenty-five plain-clothed contemplatives in the form of Eshwar Rao, Purushottam Rao, Atmaram, Kane, Khamkar, Sukhdev, Jr., Sr., Vya, Tatoba, Jalandar, Bansode, Chitale, Kulkarni, Yardi, Saswa, Bayaka, Poretore are seen worrying about the depravity of life.
