गोपाळ गणेश आगरकरांच्या विचारांचा व एकोणिसाव्या शतकातील महाराष्ट्रातील एकमेव बुद्धिप्रामाण्यवादी समाजसुधारक म्हणून त्यांच्या भूमिकेचा विस्तृत अभ्यास झाला नव्हता. अरविंद गणाचारी यांनी ही उणीव यशस्वीरीत्या भरून काढली आहे. आगरकरांचा काळ व त्यांचे कर्तृत्व यांचे वर्णन करताना छापील दुय्यम साधनांच्या वापराबरोबरच, डॉ. गणाचारींनी खाजगी कागदपत्रे, तत्कालीन मुंबई सरकारच्या आणि डेक्कन एज्युकेशन सोसायटीची कागदपत्रे यांमधून यापूर्वी प्रकाशित न झालेली अस्सल साधने शोधून काढली आहेत. Gopal Ganesh Agarkar's thoughts and his role as the only intellectual social reformer in nineteenth century Maharashtra have not been extensively studied. Arvind Ganachari has successfully filled this gap. Along with the use of printed secondary sources in describing the period of the Agarkars and their achievements, Dr. Ganachari has unearthed previously unpublished authentic instruments from private documents, documents of the then Bombay Government and the Deccan Education Society.
