जागतिक चित्र, शिल्प आणि स्थापत्य या कलांचा इतिहास या ग्रंथात वाचायला मिळतो. सुप्रसिद्ध चित्रकार, कवी, कला समीक्षक आणि शिक्षणतज्ज्ञ असलेले गुलाम मोहम्मद शेख यांनी संपादित केलेल्या या मूळ गुजराती ग्रंथाचा मराठी अनुवाद अरुणा जोशी यांनी केला आहे. पूर्व-पश्चिमेतील कलेचे तपशीलवार वर्णन करीत विविध कलाप्रवाहांचे विवेचन करण्यावर या ग्रंथात भर दिला आहे. केवळ तपशीलवार वर्णनावर अवलंबून न राहता या ग्रंथात भरपूर चित्रेही दिली आहेत. एकूण भारतीय कलेत आपला वेगळा ठसा उमटवणाऱ्या ‘बॉम्बे स्कूल’वर, कलासमीक्षक माधव इमारते यांनी लिहिलेले एक नवीन प्रकरण समाविष्ट केले आहे. Edited by Ghulam Mohammad Shaikh, a well-known painter, poet, art critic and educationist, this original Gujarati book has been translated into Marathi by Aruna Joshi. This book emphasizes on the analysis of various art trends by describing the art of East and West in detail. Instead of relying only on detailed descriptions, the book also provides plenty of illustrations. A new chapter, written by art critic Madhav Bhanday, is included on the 'Bombay School', which left its mark on Indian art as a whole.
