Udayan Vajpeyi (born 4 January 1960 in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh) is an acclaimed Hindi poet, fiction writer, novelist, and literary critic. He has authored more than thirty books across a wide range of genres, including poetry, short fiction, novels, literary criticism, travel writing, interviews, and translations. His works have been translated into several Indian and international languages, and his poems have been featured in prestigious anthologies such as The Penguin Book of World Prose Poems.Deeply engaged with cinema and theatre, Vajpeyi was a disciple of the renowned filmmaker Mani Kaul. He is the recipient of several distinguished honours, including the Raza Foundation Award, the Krishan Baldev Vaid Award, and the Senior Fellowship from the Government of India. He served for many years as Professor of Physiology at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, and is currently the editor of Samas, the Hindi literary journal published by the Raza Foundation.
