ABOUT THE BOOK:- Women are the worst victims of violence as they are subjected to both general and gender based crimes. Gender based crimes are characterized as “Crime against women”. Crimes against women, despite of legal and institutional measures are in constant rise and has become a major cause of concern. The insensitive act of crime against women manifests in various forms such as rape, sexual harassment, acid attack, domestic violence, female foeticide and infanticides, dowry torture and dowry deaths etc. Domestic and International initiatives taken to eliminate all forms of violence against women still remains just a political agenda. This edited volume, consisting of research articles of a group of authors covers all aspects and dimensions of gender based crimes taking place in our society, government, and societal intervention to contain it in order to protect the human rights of women. This book with its empirical and theoretical values is aimed at being a great use for researchers, administrators, policy makers, activists and different enforcement agencies engaged in combating crime against women. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Dr. Smita Nayak is presently working as an Associate Professor in the Post Graduate Department of Political Science, Utkal University, Odisha, India. She has done her M.A, M.Phil and Doctoral degree from Utkal University, Odisha. She has successfully supervised many Ph.D and M.Phil scholars. Her areas of interest of research include- Governance, Rural/Urban Development, Gender/Women Studies, Poverty and Food Security, Tribal Studies, Migration, Slum/Pavement Dwellers. She has participated and presented research papers in many International / National conferences, seminars and workshops. She is involved in different government research projects as a honorary consultant. She is also presently working on an ICSSR sponsored Major research project “Poverty and Deprivation of Tribal Women of Rayagada district of Odisha” of India. Moreover, she has rich experience in conducting research studies at the grass-root and tribal areas.
