बऱ्याच वर्षांपूर्वी, म्हणजे २००४ सालच्या ‘अनुष्टुभ’च्या दिवाळी अंकात नीरजाची ‘रत्नप्रभा जाधव वर्तमानपत्रातील बातमी होते तेव्हा’ अशा लांबलचक शीर्षकाची कथा वाचली आणि मी त्या कथेच्या प्रेमातच पडले. नीरजाशी तेव्हा परिचय नव्हता पण या लेखिकेचं लेखन आपण प्रकाशित केलंच पाहिजे, असं आतून जाणवत होतं. त्या जाणिवेतूनच मी नीरजाचा पत्ता शोधून तिला संग्रहाच्या प्रकाशनासंबंधी विचारणारं पत्र लिहिलं आणि नंतर एक-दीड वर्षांनी ‘ओल हरवलेली माती’ या संग्रहाचं प्रकाशन झालं. तेव्हा झालेल्या ओळखीचं रूपांतर लवकरच मैत्रीत झालं आणि नीरजाची पुढची पुस्तकं हक्कानं मागण्याची सोय झाली. खरंतर ‘ओल हरवलेली माती’पूर्वी तिचे तीन कवितासंग्रह आणि एक कथासंग्रह अशी चार पुस्तकं प्रकाशित झाली होती. पण तरीही ‘ओल हरवलेली माती’च्या प्रकाशनानंतर ती पॉप्युलर प्रकाशनाची झाली ती कायमचीच. गेल्या आठदहा वर्षांत ‘निरर्थकाचे पक्षी’ हा कवितासंग्रह आणि ‘पावसात सूर्य शोधणारी माणसं’ हा कथासंग्रह अशी तिची दोन पुस्तकं पॉप्युलरने प्रकाशित केली आणि आता गेल्याच आठवड्यात ‘अस्वस्थ मी, अशांत मी’ हा तिचा नवा कथासंग्रह प्रकाशित झाला आहे. Many years ago, in the Diwali issue of 'Anushtubh' in 2004, I read a long story by Neerja titled 'Ratnaprabha Jadhav was in the news in the newspaper' and I fell in love with the story. I was not familiar with Neerja then, but I felt that we must publish the writings of this writer. It was from that realization that I found Neerja's address and wrote a letter to her asking about the publication of the collection and after one-and-a-half years, the collection 'Ol Harveleli Mati' was published. The acquaintance soon turned into friendship and it was easy to ask for Neerja's next books. In fact, before 'Ol Harveleli Mati', she had published four books including three collections of poems and one collection of stories. But still after the publication of 'Ol Harveleli Mati' it became a popular publication forever. In the last eight years, two of her books, a collection of poetry 'Nirartha che Pakki' and a collection of stories 'People Searching for Sun in the Rain', have been published by Popular and now her new collection of stories 'Awastha Me, Ashant Me' has been published just last week.
