About The Book: The Gazetteer of the Greater Sylhet region mainly covers the Sylhet Division in Bangladesh and the Karimganj district in Assam, India. Its historical roots can be traced back to the thriving commercial centers that once existed in what is now known as Sylhet City. Due to the lack of significant towns in the district and the presence of numerous small villages, individual and detailed descriptions of each village were not included. Only places with local trade centers or specific industries were mentioned by name to avoid repetitive content. It's important to note that the compilation of the Gazetteer took place during a time when Assam was an independent Province, and any references to the Province refer to Assam, not Eastern Bengal and Assam.
