ABOUT THE BOOK In the present book 'Anthropological Research in North East India', a total of forty four research articles were contributed by different scholars on various issues highlighting the current trends of Anthropological Research particularly in North East India. The present edited book is grouped into four sections viz Biological Anthropology, Ethno- Medicine, Socio-Cultural and Ethno-Archaeology. The present book identifies different anthropological issues, social and nutritional problems, uses and beliefs of traditional health practices followed by different ethnic groups, mother and child health condition and practices, social changes, domestic violence, political and governance, religion, ethno-archaeology, economy, monuments and so forth. North East India remained the fertile field for anthropological researchers. The future prospect of anthropological research in the region is of paramount importance and need of the hour too. In fact, the region can be considered a hotspot of Anthropologist for understanding human issues and diversity. Considering this diversity and rich human environment relationship reflected in different cultural traditions and morphological characteristics, there are prospects for academic deliberation from different perspectives. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jibon Kumar, B.Sc Hons (1st Class 1st), M.Sc (Gold Medalist) and Ph.D from Manipur University is currently working as Professor of Biological Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, Manipur University (Central University), Canchipur Imphal. He is also looking after Centre for South East Asian Studies, Manipur University as Director for a tenure of 3 years, and also Director In-Charge of Educational Multi Media Research Centre (EMRC), Manipur University. He is also Director, Nodal Organization, Childline Imphal (A project of Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI) since 2002. Prior to his joining Manipur University in the year 1995 as Assistant Professor, he was a lecturer of Anthropology at Presidency College, Motbung (1987-1990) and Kha Manipur College (1991-1995). During his venture of academic teaching profession of last two and a half decade he has produced nine Ph.D Degree holders, published more than 50 papers in different scientific journals and books of national and international repute; participated and presented scientific papers in as many as 60 national and international seminars and conferences in the capacity of oral presenter, invited speaker, keynote speaker, chairperson, guest of honour and chief guest. Prof. Singh is the life member of as many as eight professional bodies namely ISC, IAS, IAA, INCAA, SIMA, ISHE, ASM and MLSM. He was the immediate Past Sectional President of Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences Section of 106th Indian Science Congress Held at LPU, Jalandhar, 2019 Sarit K. Chaudhuri, professor of anthropology, has worked among tribes of North-East India during last 25 years. During 2003–2005 he was in SOAS, United Kingdom, as a postdoctoral fellow and worked for a collaborative project with SOAS, British Museum, CCRD, and Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh. He worked in An.S.I., Shillong. He also taught in the department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh for more than 18 years. He is currently holding the post of Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, (Government of India, Ministry of Culture) Bhopal. He has published 9 books and over 52 papers in journals and books. Huidrom Suraj Singh (M.Sc., Ph,.D.,) is Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal. He is known for his contribution to anthropological research work in different ethnic groups of India. He has worked on noncommunicable diseases and its causes among different populations of North-East India. His interest is the epidemiological studies of non-communicable diseases and its associated risk factors (both environment and genetics) in tribal and non-tribal population of North-East India in general and Manipur in particular.
