The study attempts to look at the United States response to the various developments and challenges of Afghanistan with a view to understand the dynamics of survival and relative failure of this land-locked country. Focuses on the American reaction to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979, and elaborates on the process of American decision-making. It will best serve purposes to the International Affairs studies and scholars. About The Author:- Dr. Jagmohan Meher, teaches Political Science, International Relations and Area Studies at National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune, India. He is a former Fulbright Fellow at the Univeristy of Illinois, and the author of the book, America's Afghanistan War: The Succes That Failed (new Delh: Kalpaz Publications, 2004). He has published articles in the field of international relations (including on Afghanistan, Inod-US Relations and India's Foreign Policy). He was associated with the Centre for Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security (ACDAS) at the Univeristy of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Ford Foundation Fellow.
