Product description
About the Book :-This work is that of no ordinary capacity; it shows great power of observation, and also the possession by the writer of great opportunities for inquiry into the manners and habits of the different countries described. This is not really a book of travels, but rather an itinerary of descriptions of countries. It gives ample details of the trade supplies and water of the various sea ports mentioned in it. It contains many historical details such as the account of Diu, the taking of Hormuz, the founding of the Indian ships date this narrative to the year 1514. This narrative also shows that most of the towns on the coasts of Africa, Arabia, and Persia were in a much more flourishing condition at that time. The description of the early introduction of the cultivation and weaving of cotton into South Africa by the Arab traders will be read with interest. This book was translated from Spanish by H.E.J. Stanley, and was first published in 1866. About the Author:-Duarte Barbosa was a Portuguese writer and officer from Portuguese India (between 1500 and 1516). He was a scrivener in a factory in Cannanore, and an interpreter of the local language, Malayalam. He embarked on the first expedition in 1519, to circumnavigate the world, led by his brother-in-law Ferdinand Magellan. In 1502, Gonçalo was transferred to Cannanore, and Barbosa went with him. There, he learned Malayalam, the local language. Barbosa served as the interpreter for Alfonso de Albuquerque's contact with the Rajah of Cannanore the next year (1503). In 1513, he signed a letter to King Manuel I of Portugal as Clerk of Cannanore, claiming the position of master-clerk, and the year after that (1514), Alfonso de Albuquerque used Barbosa's position as an interpreter to attempt to convert the King of Kochi.Henry Edward John Stanley, 3rd Baron Stanley of Alderley and 2nd Baron Eddisbury or Abdul Rahman Stanley, (11 July 1827 – 11 December 1903), was a historian who translated The first voyage round the world by Magellan and other works from the Age of Discovery.
