ABOUT THE BOOK:- The novel read as a romance, or a quest, but the family drama upholding virtue over wealth finds adapted for cinema, twice as silent film and four times with sound [1933, 1949, 1978 and 1994]. Six television series were made, including four by the BBC -2950, 2958, 1970, and 2017. The latter BBC series was supported by PBS and aired in 2018 as part of the Masterpiece Anthology. Two anime series in Japan [1980s], a musical version on Broadway [2005], with an American opera version [1998] found across the continents and filmed for broadcast on US television [2001]. Alcott mix children's romantic elements with those of sentimental novels. Four teenage sisters with mom live in Massachusetts in genteel poverty. Their pastor dad was away from home on being involved in the American civil war. The women had to stay without him on the first Xmas. The elder two girls support the family, her successor peacemaker and pianist at home, and the last an artist for elegance and finer society ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Loui sa May Alcott [Nov 29, 1832~March 06, 1888] was an American novelist and poet. She sought an outlet in writing when her family was in dire straits, using the pen name A M Barnard. She wrote novels for young adults, focusing on spies, revenge and cross dressers. She served as a nurse in the Union Hospital, Georgetown DC for six weeks. She contracted typhoid during her service as nurse. She wrote about the mismanagement of hospitals, and the indifference and callousness of some surgeons she encountered. It appeared as Commonwealth and collected as Hospital Sketches [1863], Moods [1864], Good Wives [1869], Little Men [1871], Work [1873], A modern Mephistopheles [1875], Jo's Boys [1886]. The last novel finds infused with her March Family Saga. Little Women was well received with critics and audiences finding it suitable for reader friendly values. She used to shy away from the attention of guests at home, but sometimes enacting before them as a loyal servant.
