ऐंशीच्या दशकात श्याम मनोहर कथाकार म्हणून मराठी वाचकांसमोर आले. त्यांची कथा प्रयोगशील मानल्या जाणाऱ्या ‘नव’कथेपेक्षा वेगळी होती. कारण त्या नवतेविषयी त्यांना उत्साह नव्हता. त्यांच्या कथेतील वेगळेपण वास्तवाचा तिरकस वेध आणि मानवी अस्तित्वातील असंख्य पेच यांतून निर्माण होत होते. त्या काळातील ही कथा आजही वाचताना आकलनाचे नवे नवे वळसे देते. In the eighties, Shyam Manohar came before Marathi readers as a storyteller. His story was different from the 'new' story which was considered experimental. Because they were not enthusiastic about that novelty. The uniqueness of his story stems from the skewed perception of reality and the myriad dilemmas of human existence. This story of that time gives new twists of understanding when read even today.
