Product description
About the Book:-The author, who has written few good books on Tibet, composed this discourse also in the hope of exploring a new avenue. The present book is an attempt to speak about the life of the Tibetan people in their own homes. The contents are leaved on the author`s first-hand knowledge of Tibetan life during a residence of nearly twenty years from conversation with his Tibetan acquaintances in their own language not through interpreters. In order to keep this volume within moderate limits he had to exclude from it many aspects of Tibetan life. Shut-off from the outer world by their immense mountain barriers Tibet still presented a virgin field of enquiry. There has been little change in the inner life of the people during the last thousand years. As the area is very large and the intercourse of one part with another is restricted, the manners and customs vary in different districts and provinces. This valuable discourse contains about 70 illustrations and most of the photographs are his own to make it more compact and interesting in terms of acquiring knowledge of Tibet. About the Author :-Sir Charles Alfred Bell KCIE CMG was the British Political Officer for Bhutan, Sikkim and Tibet. He was known as "British India's ambassador to Tibet" before retiring and becoming a noted tibetologist. He was educated at Winchester School and then at New College, Oxford, after which he joined the Indian Civil Service in 1891. In 1908, he was appointed Political Officer in Sikkim. He soon became very influential in Sikkimese and Bhutanese politics, and in 1910 he met the 13th Dalai Lama, who had been forced into temporary exile by the Chinese. After travelling through Tibet and visiting Lhasa in 1920, he retired to Oxford, where he wrote a series of books on the history, culture and religion of Tibet. He was awarded a knighthood for his Lhasa Mission in 1922. The Title 'The People Of Tibet written/authored/edited by Charles Bell', published in the year 2020.
