About the Book;-The book is a tale of author’s experience in a jungle near sea shore during his residence in Sri Lanka where he describes mountains, woods, and winds that blow over them. Meadows and the wild flowers, rocks, ravines in the forest, sea, the shore and shells, corals, pools, and wild things also get due attention. He also ponders over charming sceneries and nature’s beauties that always interested him. In a nutshell, the book is given the description of birds and animals and nature. The book contains 9 chapters which covers –A timber reserve, A holy mountain, true foresters, tanks, wild beasts and buried cities, a border land, a giant held captive, water-holes and gold trails. The book was first published in 1930. About the Author :-John Still was a British archaeologist and author, known for his discoveries at Sigiriya and his book "The Jungle Tide". Still emigrated to British Ceylon in 1897, where he worked as a tea planter near Dickoya. In 1911 he was appointed as an assistant to Norman Rowsell of the Ceylon Labour Commission and he was also a Secretary of the Ceylon Planters Society. He also became an Archaeological Surveyor and Assistant Archaeological Commissioner in the Department of Archaeology, under the supervision of H. C. P. Bell. Still’s most well-known book is "The Jungle Tide" which was published in 1930 and was one of four textbooks prescribed for English literature in the Sri Lankan Senior School Certificate (English) Examination in the 1940s.
