Ruaab

Through essays, sketches, stories, or poems, an author’s personality emerges and takes shape. The contours of that personality begin to form from childhood itself. In childhood, whatever liveliness or flair is seen in a child’s personality is commonly referred to as bandarbazi—playful mischief. This very bandarbazi in the nature of monkeys and children creates a unique glimpse of artistry. It was this playful mischief that, in the form of harmless pranks, connected the author to theatre. He became involved with the stage as early as the seventh grade.

In Hindi newspapers, humorous Hindi poems published in the Sunday editions were selected and recited in the name of their original poets, and these poetry sessions were anchored by the author himself. This program gave birth to both the poet and the actor within him. Along with being a poet, he also became a playwright.

In 1965, while studying at St. Alphonsus Higher Secondary School, Kurseong, in Darjeeling, he wrote several radio plays for All India Radio, Kurseong, which were later published as a collection titled “The Value of Dedication”. He also acted in many plays. In the same creative journey, the three-act play “Ruaab” was born. The Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, nominated it for an award at its program held on 29 May 1987. This play remains relevant even today.

लेख, कथा, कहानी या कविता से लेखक का व्यक्तित्व उभरता और संवरता है। उसके व्यक्तित्व का आकार बचपन से उभरने लगता है। बचपन में बच्चों के व्यक्तित्व में जो भी उभार नज़र आता है, उसे आम भाषा में बंदरबाजी कहा जाता है। बंदर और बच्चों के स्वभाव में यही बंदरबाजी कला की अनोखी झलक पैदा करती है। इसी बंदरबाज़ी ने शरारत के रूप में लेखक को रंगमंच से जोड़ दिया। वे सातवीं कक्षा से ही रंगमंच से जुड़ गए। हिन्दी अख़बारों में रविवार को प्रकाशित होने वाली रविवासरीय हिंदी हास्य कविताएं चुन कर उसके मूल कवि के नाम से ही कविता पाठ होता था, जिसका संचालन लेखक करते थे। इस कार्यक्रम ने लेखक के कवि और अभिनेता को जन्म दिया। वे कवि के साथ-साथ नाट्य लेखक भी बन गया। 1965 में दार्जीलिंग में संत एल्फॉन्सस हायर सेकेंड्री स्कूल कर्सियांग में पढ़ते हुए उन्होंने आकाशवाणी कर्सियांग के लिए कई रेडियो नाटक लिखे, जिनका संकलन “समर्पण का मूल्य” नाम से प्रकाशित हुआ। कई नाटकों में बतौर अभिनेता भाग लिया। इसी क्रम में त्रिअंकीय नाटक “रुआब” का जन्म हुआ। साहित्य कला-परिषद दिल्ली ने 29 मई 1987 के कार्यक्रम में इसे पुरस्कार के लिए नामित किया। यह नाटक आज भी मौजूं हैं।
