About The Author:- D.G. Bhattacharyya was born in 1913 in a family of Zamindars. The family had taken up commercial activity, which suffered reverses forcing the closure of the business and making the young scion seek employment After graduating in Science from the Calcutta University, Bhattacharyya joined the Indian (Imperial) Police Service, and retired from the same in 1971 with the rank of Inspector General of Police. During his service years, he saw almost all the major events of the century from a participant's perspective, although his nationalistic feelings did, time and again, come into conflict with his official duties. He was awarded the Police Medal in 1952. A keen sportsman, traveller and photographer, Mr. Bhattacharyya's interests have taken him all over the world. He is a keen angler in still,. running and seawater and hunted for sport. Later he put up his guns and took to still and cine photography. Retirement opened up new vistas for Mr. Bhattacharyya and he founded one of the most successful security and investigation agencies in Eastern India. A deep personal tragedy, the loss of his beloved wife in 1979 led to the establishment of the DG and Gauri Bhattacharyya Foundation, a charitable trust which is engaged in a number of welfare projects in the city. His memoirs, Random Remioniscences has been urged upon him by his many friends and admirers who feel that this valuable record of a very important era be maintained for posterity as well as be Bible for future generations of law enforcement officials.
