गाडगीळांच्या प्रत्येक कथेत आकार घेणाऱ्या पात्र प्रसंगांनुसार त्यांच्या निवेदनाचे तंत्र आणि निवेदकांचा दृष्टिकोन बदलत जातो. कधी त्रयस्थ, सर्वज्ञ भूमिकेचा निवेदक सम्यक जाणीवपूर्वक कथानकांचे पदर उलगडतो तर कधी प्रथमपुरुषी ‘मी’ कधी काव्यात्म, कधी चिंतनशील किंवा विक्षिप्त, विलक्षण तऱ्हेने अंतर्यामीची गूढं उलगडतो; तर कधी हा ‘मी’ स्त्री निवेदिकादेखील असू शकतो. ‘पाळणा’ या संग्रहातल्या कथांमध्ये हे निवेदनाचे वैविध्य सहजपणे लक्षात येते.
