Product description

'Kumbharwadi' is Mahabaleshwar Sail's Saraswati award-winning novel. Mahabaleshwar Sail re-wrote this novel in Marathi under the name of 'Kumbharwadi' which was published in the original Konkani language as 'Havathan'.

From the title of the novel itself, it is clear that this is a novel about the life of a potter. Under the shade of a huge mango tree on the village lawn, a small potter's eight-nine-roofed potter's house stands at its base. Engaged in the business of soil work in our generation. This artistic tribe, who burn Gadgi, Madki, Hande-Ranjan from Diwali-Pantyas, make clay bulls and Ganapati idols on festivals. Except for one Sadananda who goes to the city with the hope of education, these potters who have not crossed the village gate are not ready to leave the traditional traditions. They do not dare to accept the changes that come with time. In this novel, we can read the depiction of a potter's house which has been destroyed with the changing times.

While portraying the life of many characters in 'Kumbharwadi' and their happiness, Mahabaleshwar Sail has vividly portrayed the ancestors of the potters, their beliefs, customs, their festivals, their business methods. Sail's pictorial style and Anwar Hussain's beautiful drawings accurately capturing his descriptions make this novel even more readable.
