आरोग्यपूर्ण जीवनासाठी आवश्यक असतो तो सकस आहार आणि योग्य व्यायाम. सकस आहार म्हणजे शरीराला आवश्यक असलेली जीवनसत्त्वे, खनिजे योग्य प्रमाणात पुरविणारा आहार हे आपण जाणतो. परंतु ही अत्यावश्यक जीवनसत्त्वे किंवा इंग्रजीत ज्यांना व्हिटॅमिन्स म्हटले जाते ती म्हणजे नेमकं काय असत, त्यांची आहारातले आवश्यकता किती असते, ती जीवनावश्यक आहेत हे कसं समजलं, या आणि अशा प्रश्नांची उत्तरं आपल्याकडे नसतात. ‘जीवनसत्त्वे’ या पुस्तकात ही उत्तरं मिळतील. डॉ. अरविंद सदाशिव गोडबोले यांनी अतिशय सोप्या मराठी भाषेत सहजपणे हा विषय समजावून दिला आहे. डॉ. गोडबोले हे स्वतः मधुमेहतज्ज्ञ होते. मधुमेह या विषयावरचे पहिले मराठी पुस्तक त्यांनी लिहिले होते जे आजही लोकप्रिय आहे.
