सामूहिक अवकाश आणि चांगदेव पाटीलला उपलब्ध झालेला खाजगी अवकाश यांच्यातील द्वंद्व या कादंबरीमधून अत्यंत वेधकपणे मूर्त झाले आहे. चांगदेवच्या लॉजमधल्या तसेच इतर ठिकाणच्या खोल्या, त्यांचे अनेकदा सार्वजनिकतेत होणारे रूपांतर, त्याने घेतलेला खोल्यांचा शोध त्या दृष्टीने अर्थपूर्ण आहे. बाहेरच्या जगाचा दैनंदिन काळ आणि चांगदेवच्या व्यक्तिनिष्ठ काळामधील ताणही वरील द्वंद्वाला पूरक ठरतात. आधुनिक काळातील व्यक्तीची स्वविषयक जाणीव आणि भोवतालच्या सामाजिक वास्तवासंबंधीची जबाबदारीची जाणीव त्यांच्यातील संघर्षापासून सामानतेपर्यंतचे विविध प्रकारचे संबंध आणि ताणतणाव नेमाड्यांनी अत्यंत समर्थपणे ‘बिढार’, ‘हूल’, ‘जरीला’, ‘झूल’ च्या रुपबंधातून अभिव्यक्त केले आहेत. या कादंबऱ्यांना केवळ वास्तववादी प्रेरणांमधून निर्माण झालेल्या कादंबऱ्यां समजणे योग्य ठरणार नाही. The consciousness of the individual in the modern era and the sense of responsibility regarding the surrounding social reality, various types of relations and tensions between them, from conflict to normality, have been very effectively expressed by Nemads through the forms of 'Bidhar', 'Hool', 'Jarila', 'Zhul'. It would not be correct to consider these novels as novels created only from realistic inspirations.
