About the Book:-A recollection of the times that the author spent in the Himalaya mountains touring and shooting game during the latter half of the 19th century. The subject of Himalayan travel and sport is now so old a story, that an attempt to create further interest in it is an almost happen undertaking, especially for one who has been more accustomed to handling the mountain-staff than the pen. The following pages, however, are in nowise embellished with a vein of romance, which, whilst perhaps rendering a narrative of this kind more attractive to the general reader, is apt to give a fanciful and overdrawn picture of the reality. Nor has their writer any pretension to being either an erudite traveller, or a mighty hunter to whom hairbreadth escapes and thrilling adventures have been common occurrences. This, the book is full of adventure and amusing anecdotes that attempt to bring the reader into the scene of action. The author travelled in Kashmir, Ladakh, the lower Himalayas in the Garwal and Kumaon, and Nepal. The book has 35 photographs and illustrations. This book is a reprint of the 1889 edition. About the Author:-Donald Macintyre is a British journalist on The Independent who writes a daily parliamentary sketch. After working at the Birmingham Sunday Mercury, Macintyre moved to the Daily Express as an industrial reporter, subsequently becoming Labour Editor at The Sunday Times and Times. As Labour Editor at The Times, he did not go to Wapping when Rupert Murdoch transferred production there in January 1986, later that year joining The Independent before its launch with his two fellow NUJ "refuseniks" on the labour staff, David Felton and Barrie Clement. He joined The Sunday Telegraph as Political Editor in 1987, leaving it for the short-lived Sunday Correspondent in 1990 before joining first The Independent on Sunday and then The Independent as Political Editor (1993–96). Macintyre was the Jerusalem correspondent for The Independent (2004–12), mainly covering Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories but also travelling to Iraq, Turkey, Egypt and Libya for the paper, on which he was previously the Chief Political Commentator (1996–2004).
