یہ کتاب علامہ اقبال کی فارسی مثنوی "پس چہ باید کرد" کا منظوم اردو ترجمہ ہے۔ اس مثنوی میں علامہ اپنے تجربات و مشاہدات سے دوسروں کو راہ کے نشیب و فراز سے واقف کراتے ہوئے نظر آتے ہیں۔ وہ اقوام مشرق کی زبوں حالی پر پریشان ہوتے ہیں۔ وہ مشرق کو مغرب کے استیلا سے آزاد دیکھنا چاہتے ہیں اور ایک ایسے عادلانہ نظام کی تشکیل چاہتے ہیں جس کی بنیاد حریت، مساوات اور اخوت پر ہو اور انسان کو انسان کی غلامی سے نجات ملے۔ اسی نظریہ کی طرف اشارہ کرتے ہوئے اس کتاب کا نام حکمت کلیمی رکھا گیا ہے کیونکہ موسی کلیم اللہ نے بنی اسرائیل کو فرعون کی غلامی سے نجات دلائی تھی ، اسی طرح یہ کتاب غلامی سے نجات کا پیغام دیتی ہے۔ کتاب کے دیباچہ میں علامہ کی مثنوی کے تعلق سے دقیق نکات بیان کیے گئے ہیں اور مقدمہ میں مثنوی کی زبان و آرٹ پر طویل فنی گفتگو ہوئی ہے۔
