He was a Dutch writer, photographer, chemist, adventurer, school teacher, and world traveler. He was famous as a photographer of Borobudur. He was educated at Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem. His choices of fields were art, science and literature. His place of work was Java and Africa. His works was in the collection of National Museum of World Cultures and Netherlands Photo Museum.
