About Author

Rabisankar Bal (1962–2017) was an acclaimed Bengali novelist, short story writer, and essayist. Over a literary career spanning more than three decades, he authored over fifteen novels, five short story collections, a volume of poetry, and a collection of literary essays, establishing himself as one of the most significant voices in contemporary Bengali literature. His novel The Biography of Midnight received the Sutapa Roychowdhury Memorial Award from the Government of West Bengal, while Dozakhnama was hailed by the celebrated Bengali author Sunil Gangopadhyay as the finest novel of 2010 and was honoured with the prestigious Bankimchandra Smriti Puraskar. Bal also edited a Bengali collection of selected writings by Saadat Hasan Manto. A journalist by profession, he lived in Kolkata and maintained a lifelong passion for literature, music, painting, and world cinema, all of which deeply informed his literary vision.
