Chiranjeev Saubhagyakankshini

रूढ अर्थाने ‘सौभाग्यकांक्षिणी’ नाटक वाटावे असे हे नाटक नाही. त्याला सुसूत्र असे जबरदस्त कथानक नाही, फार मोठे आघात नाहीत, कसली गुंतागुंत नाही, आडवळणे नाहीत, अनपेक्षित धक्के नाहीत, भावव्याकुळता नाही, दिपून जाण्याजोगे काही नाही. तुफान हास्यकारक असेही काही नाही. सीध्यासाध्या मध्यमवर्गीयांच्या सरळ रेषेतल्या आयुष्यात ते कुठे घडते? नाटक जीवनाचा आरसा असतो असे आपण सवयीने म्हणतो एवढेच. अन्यथा आरशात दिसत नाही तेच बरेचदा आपल्या नाटकांतून बघायला मिळते. मात्र ‘सौभाग्यकांक्षिणी’चे गहिरे वास्तव पाहताना आपले किंवा आपल्या मित्राचे वा शेजाऱ्याचेच चित्र पाहत असल्याचा भास होतो. म्हणूनच ‘सौभाग्यकांक्षिणी’ हे नाटक नाहीच. एका विवाहेच्छू मुलीला आलेला तो एक अनुभव आहे. प्रकट करायला कमालीचा कठीण असा. लपवून ठेवावा किंवा लपवायलाच हवा असा वाटणारा आणि तरीही बेडरपणे सांगितला गेलाला, विदारक सत्याचा अंतर्मुख करणारा अनुभव. This play is not what you would call a 'lucky wish' play in the conventional sense. It has no overarching plot, no big shocks, no complications, no twists, no unexpected shocks, no emotional turmoil, nothing to suffocate. Storms are nothing short of comical. Where does that happen in the straight line life of the sidhyasadhya middle class? It is just that we habitually say that drama is a mirror of life. Otherwise what is not seen in the mirror is often seen in our dramas. But while looking at the deep reality of 'Saubhagyakankshini', it feels like looking at a picture of yourself or your friend or neighbour. That is why 'Saubhagyakankshini' is not a play. It is an experience of a married girl. Extremely difficult to reveal. An introspective experience of the heartbreaking truths that seem to be hidden or must be hidden and yet told so badly.
