Product description
About the Book :- The author has made a noble attempt to highlight a strictly personal narrative of his Travels and Adventures in Asia and in Europe. They make no pretence whatever to be a geographical and ethnological description of the actual Central Asia. Upon these points recent works have greatly added to the knowledge we possessed twenty years ago, when he performed his dangerous pilgrimage from Budapest to Samarkand. A résumé of the various publications of Russian, English, French and German travellers in this region would have formed a separate book, but these have nothing to do with the variegated adventures of his own career, of which he proposes to give the first complete picture to the English reader. The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. This data is provided as an additional tool in helping to ensure edition identification. The book contains 34 chapters, and 14 illustrations and a portrait. About the Author :- Ármin Vámbéry, also known as Arminius Vámbéry was a Hungarian Turkologist and traveller. He was especially attracted by the literature and culture of the Ottoman Empire including Turkey. By the age of twenty, he had learned enough Ottoman Turkish to enable him to go, through the assistance of Baron Joseph Eötvös, to Istanbul and establish himself as a private tutor of European languages. He became a tutor in the house of Huseyin Daim Pasha, and, under the influence of his friend and instructor, Ahmet Efendi, became a full Osmanli, serving as secretary to Fuat Pasha. About this time he was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in recognition of his translations of Ottoman historians.Vámbéry advocated the theory of close Turkic-Hungarian linguistic and ethnic relationship, and his publications on the subject provoked a harsh scientific and public debate in Hungary, remembered as the "Ugric-Turk War". He argued that the large number of similarities between Turkic languages and Hungarian pointed to a shared origin of these languages The Title 'Arminius Vambery His Life And Adventures Written By Himself written/authored/edited by Arminius Vambery', published in the year 2020.
