आधुनिक मराठी कवितेच्या इतिहासात पहिला टप्पा केशवसुतांचा मानला जातो तर दुसरा टप्पा मर्ढेकर, मुक्तिबोध यांचा आणि दिलीप चित्रे, अरुण कोलटकर, विलास सारंग यांचा तिसरा टप्पा मानला जातो. या तीनही टप्प्यांवर कवितेने जी नवनवीन वळणे घेतली त्यावर आजपर्यंत मराठी साहित्यविश्वात सातत्याने चिकित्सा होत आली आहे. त्यापुढील नव्वदोत्तर कालखंडात संपूर्ण जगभर जागतिकीकरणामुळे जे आमूलाग्र बदल झाले त्याचा साहित्यावरही फार मोठा परिणाम झाला. या नव्वदोत्तर कालखंडात मानवी जगण्यावर झालेल्या विविधांगी बदलांचा अंतर्बाह्य वेध घेणाऱ्या नव्या उत्तर-आधुनिक कवितेची मात्र पद्धतशीर चिकित्सा आजपर्यंत झालेली नव्हती, ती प्रथमच या ग्रंथातून सैद्धान्तिक स्तरावर होत आहे, हे या ग्रंथाचे आगळेपण आहे. In the history of modern Marathi poetry, the first phase is considered to be Keshavsuta, the second phase is considered to be Mardhekar, Muktibodh and the third phase is Dilip Chitre, Arun Koltkar, Vilas Sarang. The new turns that poetry took at these three stages have been treated continuously in the Marathi literary world till date. In the post-nineties period, the radical changes that took place due to globalization all over the world had a great impact on literature as well. However, systematic treatment of the new post-modern poetry, which captures the various changes in human life in the post-90s period, has not been done till now, it is being done at the theoretical level for the first time.
