About the Book:-The narrative of the author of his world tour that he under took in the early 1900’s. Starting from Tilbury on the Thames is quite a fitting place from which to take ship for a journey to the Radiant East, especially when, the time is November and when the river is shut in by a freezing fog. The Spot is benumbing and without sentiment, but it has some interest by contrast. It is the grey curtain hanging before the brilliant scenes of the play. The voyager, leaving his native island, who would follow entailed impressions, should start from a sunny cove in Devonshire and put off in a boat. Along with the trip, the author also takes the reader through a voyage of searching. It is a descriptive with lots of observation and anecdotes. The author travelled through the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, India, Burma and Ceylon, China, Japan and America to make important notes which he incorporates in this rare and valuable book. The book contains 40 beautiful photographs to delineate the voyage more vividly. This book is a reprint of the 1905 edition. About the Author:-Sir Frederick Treves, 1st Baronet GCVO CH CB FRCS (1853 – 1923) was a prominent British surgeon, and an expert in anatomy. Treves was renowned for his surgical treatment of appendicitis, and is credited with saving the life of King Edward VII in 1902. He is also widely known for his friendship with Joseph Merrick, dubbed the "Elephant Man" for his severe deformities. Treves' ability as an author was discovered by Malcolm Morris of Cassell & Co. He wrote many books, including The Elephant Man and Other Reminiscences (1923), Surgically Applied Anatomy (1883), Highways and Byways in Dorset (the county in which he was born) (1906), A Student's Handbook of Surgical Operations (1892), Uganda for a Holiday, The Land That is Desolate, and The Cradle of the Deep (1908). This last volume is an account of his travels in the West Indies.
