‘बिजली’ नंतर वसंत बापट यांच्या कवितेचे नवे वैभव त्यांच्या ‘सेतू’ या काव्यसंग्रहात उठावदारपणे दिसते. यात अनुभूतीच्या कितीतरी नवीन वाटा, वळणे आहेत. या कवितांच्या अभिव्यक्तीत कलात्मक अपरिहार्यता जाणवते. त्यांच्या शब्दकळेला यौवनाचा अभिजात डौल आहे. ही कविता प्रौढ असूनही मिश्लिक, चंचल असूनही उदासगंभीर आहे. अनुभवांतले नाट्य ती अचूक हेरते. पण हे नाट्य व्यक्त करीत असताना नाटकीपणाचा तिला वासही येत नाही. कलाबाह्य प्रयोजनांची झापडे तिने झुगारली असून ‘अहेतुकाचा हेतू’ व्यक्त करण्याचे सामर्थ्य तिला प्राप्त झाले आहे. या संग्रहातील विफल प्रीतीची चित्रे पाहिली की ‘पोखरल्या कळीमधील सुगंधाची खूण’ अस्वस्थ करून टाकते. बापटांची प्रतिमासृष्टी बहुरंगी आहे. अतींद्रिय अनुभवांना ती रूप-रस-गंधाचे लावण्य देते. ‘पाच राजहंस माझ्या पालखीला उचलती उंच आनंदमयात’ असेच या कवितेचे स्वरूप आहे. तेच तिचे प्रयोजन आहे. आणि सामर्थ्यही.
