या कथांना रूपक कथा न म्हणता दृष्टांत कथा म्हणता येईल. रूपक कथेत एक चित्र व एक अर्थ असा सरळ एकास एक असा व्यवहार असतो. पण या ठिकाणी अंजनवाटीत दिसणारे काजळचित्र, किंवा स्वप्नाच्या तुकड्यात असणारे झगझगीत, विलक्षण लोलकवास्तव आणण्याचा प्रयत्न आहे. त्यात दिसणाऱ्या आकृतीला अर्थ असतो. पण तो एकच असणार नाही. शब्दांच्या चौकटीत अनेक सूचितार्थ प्रकट करणे हे खऱ्या काव्याचे जे सामर्थ्य आहे, ते कथेत आणता येईल का, याच्या शोधाची हा संग्रह म्हणजे एक पाऊलवाट आहे. ‘पाणमाय’, ‘रक्तमुखी’, ‘निळ्या चेहऱ्याची आकृती’, ‘दीक्षा’ अशा जीएंच्या काही गाजलेल्या कथा या संग्रहात वाचायला मिळतील.
