About The Author:- Dr. Sheo Kumar Lal did his M.A. in Economics in 1956 and in Sociology in 1962 after which he started teaching in University of Gorakhpur. In 1969, he got his Doctorate from the University of Jodhpur. He joined the University of Jodhpur as a Lecturer in 1963 and is at present Professor and Head, Department of Sociology. He is author of The Urban Elite: Higher Education : Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with Dr. Umed Raj Nahar as its co-author. Dr. Lal has edited Dimensions of a Cultural Policy : Gandhiji and Village: The Sociological Perspective of Land Reforms: Medical Care: Readings in Medical Sociology and India’s Population Policy: Critical Issues for Future with Dr. Ambika Chandani as Co-editors. Dr. Lal is the Life member of Indian Sociological Society and the President of Rajasthan Sociological Association. He is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Sociological Studies. Dr. Umed Raj Nahar did his M.A. in Sociology in 1966 in first division with first position. In 1973, he got his Doctorate and he started teaching in his own alma-mater, The University of Jodhpur. He is at present Associate Professor in Sociology. Dr. Ambika Chandani did her M.A. in Sociology in 1970 securing first division. In 1977, she got her Doctorate from the University of Jodhpur. She is at present an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, The University of jodhpur. She teaches Medical Sociology and she has published a book The Medical Profession: A Sociological Exploration. Dr. Kirti Khanna did her M.A. in Sociology in 1972 in first division, securing first position. She is at present an Assistant Professor in the University of Jodhpur, in 1980, she got her Doctorate. She teaches Sociology of Education and has deep interest in the area of Research Methodology and Statistics and the Sociology of the Professions.
