About the Book :- The present work is an important step on the ethos and spirit of religious fervor. The total number of psalms translated is 366, out of the 1452 given in most editions of the Tamil. Various renderings of a few psalms are discussed. All translations in the introduction, and in the notes, of Tayumanavar’s psalms incidentally quoted and of passages from the writings of other Tamil author’s. The words non-dual, undifferent, non-different had to be utilized to make Sidhanta implications of the Tamil equivalents clear to the reader. It would be sheer nonsense to write for the above three ‘one’, ‘same’, ‘alike’. Concerning words suggestive of Christian thought – paradise, save, salvation, manna, grace, and the like – the readers is referred to the explanation. The context, setting and contents of each equivalent is the original are sufficient safeguards against a confusion of ideas. The book is the product of extensive study of Saiva Saints’ psalms. The subject of the book is religious and delicate. About the Author :- Issac Tambyah was educated at St. John's College, Jaffna. Qualifying as a lawyer he practised in Jaffna until 1901 and then in Colombo until 1913. In 1912 he was called to the Bar, Gray's Inn, and proceeded to Malaya the next year to set up in practice there. He soon made a name for himself in politics and the law while at the same time not neglecting his theological studies. He was a man of wide culture and Catholic tastes. He founded and edited the ‘Ceylon Review’ the first Law Magazine published in Ceylon. He was the author of the "Digest of the Law Contract" and "Commentary on the Ceylon Penal Code" and "Commentary on the Ceylon Labour Ordinance", besides editing the "Ceylon Law Review" and "Tambyahs Reports".
