About the book: The temples at Mahabalipuram and strange monuments as well as all those that have been discovered in other places and contain similar inscriptions can therefore be considered as the work of the Pallavas. These were not built of stones placed above another, but were simply rocks that the sculptor’s chisel had worked on either to give them the external form of a building, or to excavate in them subterranean chambers. The subject of the book is very interesting and the author has preserved these sculptors from the monument, which he considers his noble attempt to put the things in right perspective. These sculptures are beautiful because they are cut in the rocks which draw the attention of the archaeologists. Both the volume of the books are extensive study of the antiquities of the dynasty of Nandivarman constitutes an essential part of the work. The first volume covers Pallava Antiquities belong to the period between A.D. 600 to 750 and the second volume covers between A.D. 750 to 900. The book is the product of extensive study of Dravidian architecture. So both the parts of the book are immensely beneficial for the readers, analyst and researchers. About the author:- Gabriel Jouveau-Dubreuil (1885-1945) was a French archaeologist who specialized in Southern India, who conducted extensive studies on the archaeology, monuments and sculptors of Southern India and discovered engraved documents. He was the first discoverer of artifacts at Nagarjunakonda in Andhra Pradesh in 1926, before systematic digging was taken over by A. H. Longhurst in 1927. He published both in French and English.
