The famed British author was the second of eight children. His father was a naval clerk. Charles started supporting his family at the age of 12 after his father was sent to prison for debt. He later joined his school again and after some time started working as journalist and illustrator. He also made sketches with pseudo name Boz, which became very popular. He then travelled to United States and Italy and wrote a travelogue. His 75 readings netted around $95000 in Victorian era which will now be counted $1.5 million US dollars.
